MORE ABOUT CAROL SALINE

Carol Saline. An enigmatic figure in the labyrinthine world of Philadelphia’s media elite, she emerges as a polymath of staggering proportions—a journalist, a broadcasting luminary, an author of note, and an illustrious public speaker. But beneath the veneer of her multifaceted career lies a story as dark and compelling as the tales that populate Bret Easton Ellis’s novels.

With a catalogue of eight books, Saline’s literary imprint on the Philadelphia landscape is undeniable. Her most captivating foray into the cultural zeitgeist was the mesmerizing photo trilogy she co-authored with the talented lensman, Sharon J. Wohlmuth. The inception of this odyssey, “Sisters,” read like a thrilling thriller itself, spending a jaw-dropping 63 weeks atop The New York Times bestseller list and pushing over a million copies into the hands of voracious readers. A decade later, it received a triumphant 10th Anniversary edition update. The saga marched forward with “Mothers & Daughters,” swiftly ascending to the pinnacle of every national best-seller list, followed by “Best Friends.” Saline’s solo ventures also bear the mark of her indomitable spirit, including “Dr. Snow: How the FBI Nailed an Ivy League Coke King,” “Straight Talk: How to Get Closer to Others by Saying What You Really Mean,” and “A Guide to Good Health.” In 2005, she lent her poignant prose to the acclaimed photography book, “A Day in the Life of The American Woman.”

Today, Ms. Saline lords over her media empire, Saline Solutions, a domain she carved out of the tumultuous terrain of magazine journalism. For thirty years, she held the coveted role of senior editor at Philadelphia Magazine, where she etched her legacy in personal profiles, hard-hitting health exposés, and deep-dive investigative reports. Her bylines have graced the hallowed pages of illustrious national publications, including Reader’s Digest, Family Circle, More, Redbook, Self, and Cosmo Girl.

Yet, her prowess doesn’t end with the written word. She once held court as a TV host on “The Fretz Kitchen,” a daily culinary extravaganza beamed into four million homes via CN8, and lent her distinctive voice to “Reaching Out” on New Jersey Public Television. She also dominated the airwaves as the host of “The Carol Saline Show” on WDVT talk radio. A decade-long stint as a weekly panelist on the esteemed WPVI public affairs program, “Inside Story,” cemented her status as a media juggernaut. Her illustrious list of national television appearances includes icons like Oprah, Donahue, Larry King Live, American Journal, Inside Edition, CBS Good Morning, The Weekend Today Show, and Good Morning America.

Beneath the glittering surface of her career lies a treasure trove of accolades, a testament to her ability to unearth riveting narratives across a spectrum of vital subjects. She’s a two-time laureate of the coveted National Magazine Award, often referred to as the Pulitzer of the magazine world. Other national honors include three Clarion awards for print feature writing from Women in Communications, the Charles Stuart Mott and The International Reading Association Awards for her educational writing, and The Health Journalism Award from the American Society of Chiropractors. The National Press Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters have also recognized her invaluable contributions. In the city where brotherly love reigns, she’s been thrice celebrated for writing excellence by Sigma Delta Chi, and she’s proudly earned four Sarahs from Women in Communications, christening her a “Super Communicator.” Her commitment to social causes has been equally lauded, with numerous Women of Achievement awards from organizations such as The Montgomery County Woman’s Center, Melitta Benz, Women in Transition, The Delaware County Domestic Abuse Project, and Hadassah. Her illustrious name finds its place in the pantheon of Who’s Who in America.

Today, Ms. Saline channels her expertise into philanthropic endeavors, serving on the boards of The Philadelphia Film Society, the Center for Literacy, and The Philadelphia Theater Company. Her altruistic endeavors include volunteering as a telephone counselor for Contact 609, mentoring with Philadelphia Futures, and holding board memberships with Jewish Family Service of South Jersey, Planned Parenthood of Camden County, The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, The National Osteoporosis Foundation, and Philadelphia CASA.

A magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse University, Ms. Saline was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and holds a dual degree in English and Journalism.
